Sunway Rocks Goals to Shine a Light on Sustainability

In conjunction with Global Week to #Act4SDGs from the 20th to the 30th of September, Sunway Education Group and UN Malaysia teamed up for a fantastic event dedicated to promoting the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Reaching its fourth anniversary since its launch in 2015, the 17 United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals continues its collective worldwide efforts in bringing all the UN country members together to combat deprivations of all kinds by 2030.

The urgent call to action by all countries involved aim to solidify continuous and coordinated partnerships involving governments, private sectors, civil service, and key individuals.

Event partners for the ‘Shine a Light on Sustainability: Rock the Goals 2019’ event featured many key members of local industries, international ambassadors, and His Royal Highness Tengku Amir Shah ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj, Crown Prince of Selangor to instill and nurture sustainable practices to nurture a community of socially and ecologically responsible global citizens of the future.

The 17 goals identified to be the blueprint for peace, prosperity, and environmentally conscious sustainability can be found in the list below.

GOAL 15: Life on Land
GOAL 16: Peace and Justice Strong Institutions

The event was a success, drawing over 2,000 attendees to the Jeffrey Cheah Hall at Sunway College, and performances from the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Zimi J (Malaysian all-autistic band), and ROCKestra Deja Voodoo Spells, and acts Muzza and Arjuna provided entertainment in between talks and addressing of each goal.

“The vision for sustainable development can only be achieved if everyone works together. We need to understand that we are interdependent on each other, and with all life on earth, it is a symbiotic relationship. Only by understanding this, will we be able to work towards sustainable solutions for many of the issues in the world today,” Dr Elizabeth Lee, Chief Executive Officer of the Sunway Education Group said.
