This April, tee off at one of Malaysia’s most scenic golf courses, The Els Club in Teluk Datai, Langkawi. Picturesque, challenging, and beautifully designed and maintained, this is one of the country’s most desirable courses for golfers to play. And what’s more, an enjoyable day of golf is followed by a fantastic beachfront BBQ buffet dinner hosted by the superb Four Seasons Langkawi!

The beautiful fairways at The Els Club in Langkawi

Any reason to play at The Els Club in Langkawi will appeal to many golfers, but once again, the Rotary Club of Langkawi (RCL) is giving you the best reason of all: the chance to give back to the community. The RCL, like all Rotary Club chapters worldwide, is a service organisation, committed to serving the people of the communities in which they exist. This is the sixth year for the RCL to hold its annual fundraiser, and what’s especially noteworthy is that 100% of the funds raised are used for local community support initiatives, always focused on helping people to help themselves. The Rotary Club philosophy is based on the idea of giving people a hand up, not just a handout.

Over the last few years, the RCL and its tireless service-oriented members and supporters have provided the funds and organisation efforts for two massive mangrove clean-up projects in the Kilim Karst Geopark, each attended by over 1,000 people who went out on scores of boats to clean up the environment. This campaign also sought to educate locals about the value of reducing plastic use, properly disposing of trash, and recycling and reusing whenever possible. To that end, over 2,000 strong, reusable shopping bags were provided to help residents reduce their dependence on single-use plastics. The RCL have also furnished the funds and materials to completely refurbish the Children’s Ward at the Langkawi Hospital. The Gift of Sight campaign by the RCL saw not only new equipment for the hospital being furnished, but over 100 lenses for much-needed cataract replacement operations for Langkawi residents who could not afford this life-changing procedure. The renewed vision enabled these locals to once again work and be a contributing member of the community. The RCL also provided funds for a substantial library to facilitate the reading and English-speaking skills growth of local teenagers through the Y-Connect programme, and, in conjunction with Umgawa and Rachel Chua, funded scholarships for promising students otherwise unable to afford a university education.

None of this would be possible without the great support of community-minded people at the RCL’s annual fundraising event, which this year is generously sponsored and hosted by The Els Club Teluk Datai, Four Seasons Resort Langkawi, and a number of other Langkawi businesses and individuals.

This is the sixth year the Rotary Club of Langkawi has organised this fun golf tournament, with all funds raised going to support the RCL’s ongoing community service activities, and every year, the fine folks at The Els Club have graciously partnered up with the RCL to make the fundraising event a success. Whether you’re young, old, or somewhere in between, and whether you’re an experienced competitor on the green or just an enthusiastic amateur, you’ll be warmly welcomed! Make your plans to join the fun for a very good cause on Saturday, April 25, 2020, comprising an 18-hole round of top-level golf, a five-star BBQ buffet on the beach at the Four Seasons Resort Langkawi, and plenty more!
