Only 15 of the handmade collector’s boxes are available, housing a trio of fine and rare whiskies from The Balvenie. Spoiler alert: It’s not cheap.
In what was billed as a tribute to their shared passion and respect for time-honoured craftsmanship, The Balvenie and Royal Selangor recently unveiled their first-ever collaborative collection, an exquisite ultra-limited edition collector’s box and a selection of exclusive gift packs for Malaysia and Singapore. This is the first collaboration for The Balvenie in Malaysia, and what better partner to collaborate with than Royal Selangor?
You know the name well. Founded in 1885, Royal Selangor is the world’s foremost name in high-quality pewter and a brand synonymous with innovative design and expertly honed craftsmanship. Devoted to the craft, Royal Selangor was founded by Yong Koon, a pewtersmith and since 1979, has been conferred by the Sultan of Selangor with the warrant of ‘Royal Pewterer’.
The Collector’s Box
Let’s take a look. Housing an exclusive set of rare and especially fine single malts by The Balvenie, and with only 15 individually numbered sets available, the limited edition collector’s item is a celebration of the union of an award-winning Speyside single malt whisky and the world’s foremost name in quality pewter from Malaysia. Both of these respected companies are dedicated in staying true to their craft and have been doing so for over a century. Indeed, for both companies, craftsmanship is the name of the game, so this collaboration intuitively just made sense.
The box really is lovely… heavy, precision-made, and as each dimpled pewter sheet on the box is hammered by hand (over 8,000 dimples in all), it’s accurate to say it really is one of a kind.
A true work of art, the collector’s box is a vessel made from high-grade walnut wood encased in handcrafted pewter which utilises Royal Selangor’s signature dimple design and hand-hammering technique that requires a great deal of skill and precision. Available now, the collector’s box takes up to six days to complete, reflecting the finely tuned attention to detail and skill which defines this collaboration.
Three signature bottles can be housed within the box, and collectors and connoisseurs can choose from The Balvenie expressions which are 30 years and above to fill their box. A minimum purchase value is required to acquire the custom limited edition collector’s box, which varies somewhat by market.
We can assure you that the price isn’t cheap. But fear not… for the less-deep-pocketed among us, the collaboration has also yielded a trio of limited edition gift packs that are considerably more affordable.
The Gift Packs
For the gift packs, which include a beautiful custom whisky glass with the signature Royal Selangor pewter base, aficionados can choose from a selection of The Balvenie 12 Year Old DoubleWood, 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask, and 17 Year Old DoubleWood single malt. Only available for a limited time, the exclusive gift packs make thoughtful and exquisite gifts for whisky lovers and those who appreciate finely crafted collectibles.
“It is an honour to partner with Royal Selangor as when the world around us is automating, and true craftsmanship is becoming a rare commodity, we truly value those who share the same dedication, passion and heart for it. This collaboration represents our time-honoured craftsmanship over generations and we are proud to have produced one of the finest bespoke collector’s boxes to house our unique top-range whiskies,” noted Brett Bayly, The Balvenie’s Regional Brand Ambassador in Southeast Asia.
Gift packs are available from January 2021 onwards in Cold Storage, TMC, Mercato, AEON, Maxvalu, Jaya Grocer, Village [email protected], Tesco, and Sunshine.
