The Mouratoglou Tennis Programme at Epsom Malaysia

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Mouratoglou Tennis Programme at Epsom Malaysia is a pioneering programme designed and overseen by Patrick Mouratoglou, Serena Williams’ renowned tennis coach responsible for steering her to 10 out of 23 Grand Slam wins and for mentoring and shaping the most inspiring athletes such as Stefanos Tsitsipas, Coco Gauff, Holger Rune, and Alexei Popyrin. The Programme combines high-performance tennis, using the Mouratoglou Academy methodology, and a world-class British education exclusively at Epsom in Malaysia.

A Word from Patrick

“At the Mouratoglou Academy, we have for the last 25 years given equal importance to tennis and school, by developing a precursor school system that helps children be well prepared for the future and equipped with all the necessary tools to live their lives to the fullest. I am thrilled to expand our pillar programme of tennis & school worldwide, especially in Asia, and to be partnering with such a renowned school. Epsom College in Malaysia is an exceptional facility with quality infrastructures and a curriculum in alignment with our standards.”

Open to students of all skill levels from the age of 11, the Programme allows students to play an average of 20 hours of tennis a week (including match fixtures, physical and mental conditioning and individual coaching lessons) and follow a Future Ready curriculum that delivers excellent academic results and promotes high-level sporting involvement. The Programme’s coaches, all trained under the Mouratoglou methodology, will pay careful attention to each student’s needs and skill levels to customise individual training plans that are designed to harness each child’s potential to develop a strong and efficient tennis game.

The Best of Both Worlds

The Programme is a seamless blend between academics and tennis and inculcates a strong practice of discipline and resilience in its participants. Students can expect the following from the Programme:

  • 20 hours of weekly training
  • 20 hours of individual coaching sessions per year (tennis or fitness)
  • Small group sizes (up to 4 players)
  • Group training based on skill level
  • Daily physical conditioning sessions
  • Recovery sessions (mobility, injury prevention, stretching)
  • Mental/mindfulness coaching
  • Saturday match training
  • Holiday training programmes (chargeable)

  • English National Curriculum
  • 24/7 open door policy for academic and pastoral support
  • Small class sizes
  • Bespoke university admissions programme
  • Specialist transition classes and support for IBDP and EAL students
  • 60 – 90 minutes of teacher supported independent study
  • Additional optional study sessions on Saturdays
  • Holiday revision programmes

Programme participants also benefit from the Epsom Advantage, a bespoke university support programme that provides each student with a clearly defined roadmap, a collaborative effort between student, mentors and parents, that outlines different objectives students must meet in the lead-up to a successful application to a top-tier university (eg. summer applications, essay development, research, scholarship and internship opportunities). The Programme also provides promising student-athletes with the training rigour to apply to colleges where the duality between tennis and academics can be explored further.

A Word from Matthew Brown, Headmaster at Epsom

“At Epsom, our job is not only to get our students to the finish line, but also to prepare our students to be well-rounded, resourceful, culturally and emotionally intelligent individuals. We help students to identify their genuine interests both in and out of the classroom – when a student pursues what they are passionate about, they gain purpose, are motivated to learn and are driven to excel. The Mouratoglou Tennis Programme will give youth players the opportunity to explore the duality between tennis, a highly combative, mentally engaging and athletically demanding sport, and achieving success in their academic requirements.”
