Explore, play, learn and grow with Alice Smith School!

Play is the main way children learn and develop ideas about the world. It helps them build the skills necessary for critical thinking and leadership. It’s how they learn to solve problems and to feel good about their ability to learn.

At the Alice Smith School Early Years (Pre-school and Reception, aged 3 – 5 years old), we apply a play-based approach, based on the British curriculum.

Your child will be supported by skilled teachers who are well-trained in understanding how play contributes to learning. Our teachers carefully plan activities and resources to meet your child’s needs and interests.

Our classrooms are designed in a free flow style so your child can easily move around the space both inside and outside discovering carefully planned activities that stimulate their interests and engage them while providing learning opportunities. One week the classroom will be a pirate ship, another an airport and the next you’ll be invited into a doctor’s surgery for a full discussion on your medical history!

“When we toured the campus for the first time, it was great to see the different tools and materials the children were using in the classroom. It just looked like a really fun learning environment and most importantly, the children looked so happy and extremely comfortable.” ~ Rizwana, Alice Smith parent.

In addition, we also have two dedicated outdoor play areas, a discovery garden and a nature trail. Our spaces promote:

  • Social and emotional development
  • Imaginative and creative thinking
  • Independence, problem solving and active inquiry
  • Language and communication skills

“Children within our Early Years are offered a broad range of learning opportunities through play alongside direct teacher instruction for areas such as reading, phonics, writing and maths.” ~ Alan McCarthy, Primary Principal
