Recognising Asia’s pivotal role in finding solutions for and addressing planetary health issues, PHAM 2024 will be headlining the theme “From Evidence to Action: Confronting Reality.”

Sunway University, in collaboration with the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA), is meeting the moment by co-hosting the esteemed Planetary Health Annual Meeting (PHAM), a global platform aimed at understanding and tackling environmental change and its health implications. This consortium, boasting over 400 members, spans universities, NGOs, research institutes, and governmental bodies worldwide, united in their dedication to driving transformative change.

Scheduled to take place at Sunway’s campus from April 16-19, 2024, PHAM 2024 marks the first time this prestigious event ventures into Asia. With a theme centred on “From Evidence to Action: Confronting Reality,” the summit underscores Asia’s pivotal role in addressing planetary health challenges. The gathering will blend academic discourse with practical solutions, featuring keynote speakers, interactive sessions, and the launch of impactful publications like the Planet Saving Meals Cookbook and the Planetary Health Playbook.

Professor Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood, Executive Director of Sunway Centre for Planetary Health, emphasised the urgency of action, highlighting Sunway University’s commitment to sustainability and tangible outcomes. As she aptly noted, the summit is not merely a forum for dialogue but a catalyst for meaningful change, resonating with the conviction that science must transcend academia to drive actionable solutions.

Executive Director of Sunway Centre for Planetary Health and the driving force behind PHAM 2024, Professor Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood shared, “Sunway University recognises that we need to act now. While we are pleased that we are able to host this event at the university, we are convinced that this Summit must not be simply a talking shop or purely an opportunity to showcase Malaysia. We are here to work, to debate issues essential to the ability of planet and people to thrive together. Sunway University’s focus on integrating sustainability into every aspect of our operation and culture is a significant enabler and example of what can be done.”

With a focus on bridging the gap between scientific evidence and public engagement, PHAM 2024 aims to galvanise global efforts in addressing pressing environmental, social, and economic challenges. Join the conversation at the 6th Annual Planetary Health Summit and contribute to shaping a healthier, more sustainable future for our planet.
