Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre – High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur welcomes you to a solo art exhibition by the Malaysian-based Indian artist Pooja Verma.

The State of Rajasthan in India, draws a rich historical and traditional milieu of art forms ranging from Royal Paintings to Landscapes. The great Indian painters painted landscapes inspired from mountainous Aravalli’s and other regions from India. The rich diversity in the colours of the traditions of Rajasthan are very significant to its visual arts. Specially the groups of colours worn by its people and used in its architecture over centuries.

A Culture in Quilt takes into account a specific gaze at the bright and cultural quilt abstract art work. A quilt of Rajasthan is a collage of colours, patterns, forms, and texture. The chieftain element of cotton absorbs from its surrounding many bright shades of life that represents its people and life.

Artist Pooja Verma presents this very specificity in forms of her contemporary and abstract work that is original and unique in its essence. She is an artist in oil and acrylic paintings. She was born in State of Rajasthan in India and is based in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) for the past 7 years. Pooja started painting professionally around six years back though she has been drawing and creating art pieces since she remember her childhood. Her works are inspired from bright and vibrant Indian culture, where the symbolism of colour stands out and controls every aspect of life. Through an intricate texture and vibrant colours in her pieces, she aims to create a visceral response in the viewer with the hope that the viewers can connect to them emotionally rather than through a conscious, deliberate effort. In this way, viewers are able to create their own interpretation rendering the narrative secondary.

You are welcome to visit her solo exhibition opening reception on 9th June at 3pm. Entry is free.
