Lights, Camera, Luxury: Why Aurum Theatre at TRX is a Movie Buff’s Dream

At Kuala Lumpur’s newest cinematic sanctuary, GSC’s Aurum Theatre blends blockbuster brilliance with five-star comfort – and it’s changing the way film fans watch their favourite stories unfold.

For decades, going to the movies meant popcorn in a paper bag, stiff seats, and likely a sticky floor or two. Especially for expats having grown up in Western countries, movie nights were a pretty straightforward affair. Show up early, stand in line (especially for popular new releases) in hopes of getting the best seat possible, get your popcorn or Milk Duds, and enjoy the movie while sitting in a very standard-issue cinema.

But not only is movie-going different in Malaysia in general (like getting to preselect your seats and having a wide range of hot and tasty munchables to choose from), Aurum Theatre at The Exchange TRX has torn up that old script entirely. This plush, purpose-built cinema offers more than just a screening – it’s an experience. And for film lovers who appreciate sharp storytelling and a soft recliner, it might just be the gold standard.

Enjoy plush, reclining seats at Aurum Theatre

Let’s start with the basics. Located on the Park Level of The Exchange TRX (which we love because we can get there with ease on the MRT), this newest gem in GSC’s upscale Aurum portfolio comes fitted with two immersive formats: IMAX with Laser and ScreenX. Each one is tailored to pull you into the film in a different, dazzling way.

In the IMAX hall, expect sharp, high-resolution images delivered across a massive curved screen – one that stretches almost to the edge of your peripheral vision. Add to that a powerful 12-channel sound system and you’re in for a heart-thumping, eye-popping experience that brings explosive blockbusters to vivid life.

The beautiful IMAX hall brings high tech to the cinema experience

Prefer a more panoramic punch? The ScreenX hall takes immersion a step further with a unique 270-degree view. By projecting additional scenes onto the side walls, ScreenX wraps viewers in an extended canvas of action, making high-octane chases and sweeping landscapes feel even more real. This setup is especially appealing for action and adventure films, where every corner of the frame matters.

A photo can never do any justice to ScreenX’s 270-degree wraparound screening experience
ScreenX immerses you in the moviescape like no other cinema

Of course, all that sensory engagement deserves a little indulgence – and this is where Aurum really shines. Each hall features fully reclinable seats, perfect for kicking back in comfort. With only a couple hundred seats per hall, you won’t be jostling elbows with strangers, either. Each ticket also includes a complimentary snack and beverage set, with the menu updated quarterly to keep things fresh. Whether you go for a savoury bite, a sweet treat, or the classic popcorn combo, it’s all served up with flair.

Even the pricing is surprisingly palatable for such a luxe setup: RM70 for IMAX and RM50 (or RM40 for 2D) for ScreenX. That includes your food and drink, a buttery-soft chair, and a viewing experience that puts most home cinemas to shame.

Bottom line? If you love movies – truly love them – Aurum Theatre at TRX is well worth the upgrade. It’s more than a cinema. It’s a celebration of film, designed by people who clearly care about the craft. Whether you’re catching the latest blockbuster or revisiting a familiar favourite, this is how movies were meant to be seen.

KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital, formerly known as Johor Specialist Hospital, is a leading private healthcare institution located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Established in May 1981, it holds the distinction of being Johor’s first private hospital and the inaugural facility under the KPJ Healthcare Berhad network.

Today, the hospital offers a comprehensive range of medical services, supported by state-of-the-art facilities. With 282 beds, 95 specialists, and nearly 1,000 staff, the hospital is equipped to handle patients across a wide spectrum of disciplines. Its Centres of Excellence include the Heart & Lung Centre, Cancer Care Centre, Neurology and Stroke Centre, and IVF Centre, among others. This advancement enables highly precise, minimally invasive procedures in gynaecology, urology, and general surgery. Patients benefit from smaller incisions, less pain, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery times—underscoring KPJ Johor’s dedication to medical innovation.

The hospital continues to invest in staff development and clinical advancements to provide better care, greater comfort, and a holistic approach to health and well-being.

Why Expats Are Embracing WORQ Bandar Utama – and How It’s Redefining Office Life in Malaysia

Offering a blend of flexibility, convenience, and community, WORQ’s newest outlet in Bandar Utama is turning heads and winning hearts among Klang Valley’s growing expat community.

In today’s world of hybrid teams, flexible hours, and remote working norms, the question isn’t whether offices need to evolve – it’s how. That’s where WORQ Bandar Utama comes in. The latest addition to Malaysia’s leading flexible workspace brand, this new location at KPMG Tower in Bandar Utama is raising the bar for what a modern, people-first office can look like – and expats living and working around the Klang Valley are taking note.

BEYOND DESKS AND WI-FI: A WORKPLACE DESIGNED FOR LIFE

At a glance, WORQ Bandar Utama ticks the usual coworking boxes: fast internet, modern meeting rooms, and ergonomic workstations. But spend a bit of time inside and you’ll quickly realise this isn’t just another shared office.

There’s a fully equipped mothers’ room for nursing parents, nap pods for a quick recharge, a colourful games room, and thoughtfully designed communal areas where casual chats often lead to new ideas and collaborations. It’s a space built on the principle that work should fit into life – not the other way around. For expats far from home, that balance of functionality and friendliness offers something more than just a desk: it offers a sense of ease and belonging.

TRANSIT-ORIENTED COWORKING: WORK CLOSER, LIVE BETTER

Location is key – especially for expats juggling work, family, and the logistics of daily life. WORQ Bandar Utama exemplifies the group’s Transit-Oriented Coworking model: workspaces positioned for maximum convenience and connectivity, while cutting down the grind of KL’s traffic.

Set within a Grade A office tower that’s directly linked to the MRT – and soon the LRT – this outlet offers easy, sustainable commuting. It’s also within walking distance of 1 Utama Shopping Centre and several popular hotels, making it ideal for client meetings, quick errands, or a relaxing lunch break. It’s no surprise that over half of WORQ’s members now use public transport, helping ease urban congestion – a shift that resonates with many environmentally conscious expats.

“Our Transit-Oriented Coworking model is about giving people back their time and peace of mind,” explains Stephanie Ping, Co-founder and CEO of WORQ. “When you’re not stuck in traffic, you can spend that time on what really matters – whether it’s family, wellness, or new ideas.”

CONNECTION BEYOND THE WORKDAY

WORQ has always aimed to be more than just a workspace. Each location is set up as a community hub, with the spirit of a modern-day rukun tetangga – not just for locals, but for newcomers to the city, too.

Weekly social mixers, professional workshops, and networking sessions make it easy for expats to plug into the local startup scene or simply find new friends. As Francesco Argento, CEO of ezyspark and a longtime WORQ member puts it, “Being part of a community like WORQ has given me the opportunity to get to know amazing people that have become good friends and part of my business and personal life.”

With access to WORQ’s cloud office model, members aren’t tied to a single location. Whether you’re taking a client meeting at KL Sentral or brainstorming in Subang, you’ll still be connected to the same standard of service – and the same supportive community.

A LIFESTYLE NEIGHBOURHOOD FOR WORK AND PLAY

Bandar Utama is a well-established favourite among expats, offering a good mix of urban convenience and residential calm. From WORQ’s location, members are within walking distance to international schools, fitness centres, and a wide range of restaurants and cafés. Need a breather? Hit the gym next door, take a stroll in a nearby park, or decompress in the games room – it’s the kind of work-life blend that many professionals wish their office had.

A BLUEPRINT FOR MALAYSIA’S FUTURE WORKPLACES

With its Bandar Utama launch, WORQ – in partnership with Bandar Utama City Group – is signalling a forward-looking approach to workspaces: one that combines productivity with comfort, accessibility with sustainability, and local charm with global expectations.

In a world where work and life increasingly overlap, WORQ Bandar Utama gets the mix right. And for expats navigating a new country, a new job, or a new community, that can make all the difference.

Discover Malaysia’s Southern Star: A Weekend Escape in Johor

With its blend of natural beauty, rich heritage, and modern attractions, Johor delivers a perfect weekend escape — yet it remains one of Malaysia’s most underappreciated travel gems.

Johor may sit at the southernmost tip of Peninsular Malaysia, but when it comes to variety, this dynamic state rises straight to the top. From its royal legacy to its bustling cities and sun-drenched beaches, Johor is a state brimming with character and experiences just waiting to be explored.

Explore Johor’s amazing beaches and marine wonders | Image Credit: BBC

With a population of over 4 million as of 2023, Johor is Malaysia’s second most populous state after Selangor. Johor Bahru, the capital and economic heart of the state, is also the core of the sprawling Iskandar Malaysia development, a major economic zone driving rapid growth. Kota Iskandar serves as the state’s administrative capital, while the historic town of Muar is the royal capital. The state is currently ruled by Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, who ascended the throne in 2010 and was crowned King of Malaysia in 2023.

The name Johor traces its roots to the Arabic word jauhar, meaning “jewel” or “precious stone,” inspired by the region’s once-abundant gemstone deposits near the Johor River. Over time, the local pronunciation evolved into “Johor,” reflecting the state’s cultural synthesis of East and West.

Whether you’re after a bit of luxury, a nature retreat, or a shopping spree, Johor has you covered. The stunning Desaru Coast is a coastal haven offering upscale beachfront resorts and oceanfront dining, perfect for couples and families alike. For those who crave a wilder side of travel, Johor’s dense rainforests and national parks — including Endau-Rompin — provide incredible opportunities for jungle trekking, wildlife spotting, and camping.

Families travelling with children will appreciate Johor’s array of theme parks, such as Legoland Malaysia Resort and the newly upgraded Desaru Coast Adventure Waterpark. For shopping enthusiasts, outlet malls like Johor Premium Outlets offer designer deals just a short drive from the Singapore border, making Johor an ideal weekend destination for regional visitors.

And while the cityscape of Johor Bahru continues to modernise rapidly, there’s no shortage of historical and cultural treasures. Visit the majestic Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque, or take a leisurely walk through the heritage-rich streets of Muar, filled with colonial charm and some of the best food in the state.

Foodies, take note: Johor is also a culinary hotspot, serving up everything from traditional Javanese and Bugis dishes to Chinese seafood feasts and Indian-Muslim fusion favourites. No trip here is complete without a bowl of laksa Johor — a noodle dish unique to the state, traditionally eaten with spaghetti instead of rice noodles.

With its blend of heritage, hospitality, nature, and modernity, Johor continues to impress visitors with every visit. Whether you’re planning a relaxing beach holiday, an urban adventure, or a family-friendly escape, a weekend in Johor just might turn into something much more.

From the Classroom to the Community: A Look Inside EAGLE Week at OIS

At Oasis International School – Kuala Lumpur, education reaches far beyond the classroom. EAGLE Week is a powerful, hands-on initiative that empowers students from kindergarten to high school to engage with global issues, serve their communities, and grow as compassionate, informed global citizens.

“I have seen the power of experiential learning,” said Mrs. Sarah Ong. As the middle school service-learning coordinator at Oasis International School – Kuala Lumpur, she believes that “one of the best ways to cultivate empathy, critical thinking, and a commitment to serve others and the community is to take our learning outside of the classroom and apply it to the real world.”

Coral reef preservation, social enterprise impact, and accessible healthcare for all—these are just a few of the global issues students explored during EAGLE Week at Oasis International School. It was a meaningful and engaging experience that brought learning to life beyond the classroom. Across all divisions—elementary, middle, and high school—students tackled real-world challenges through hands-on activities, local and international service projects, and immersive environmental learning, all aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Secondary students from OIS learn about the upcycling process and explore how plastic waste can be transformed into new products during a workshop at Earth Heir in Pasar Seni.

Elementary students explored issues related to the environment, health, and education. Through interactive field trips to places like Taman Tugu and Zoo Negara, along with on-campus projects using recycled materials, elementary students learned how to take action as responsible global citizens. Even the youngest learners joined in—Kindergarten students investigated the school’s composting system and discovered how Black Soldier Fly larvae help convert organic waste into useful fertilizer.

In middle school, each grade level took on a unique global issue. Grade 6 addressed “Zero Hunger” by volunteering at a local soup kitchen, serving meals and learning about food insecurity. Later, they headed to Tadom Hill Resort, where rope courses and leadership workshops challenged them to grow in resilience and collaboration.

OIS students planned activities for refugee students around the school campus.

Grade 7 students explored the themes of Climate Action and Life on Land with an adventurous trip to Gopeng. Through hiking, whitewater rafting, and a visit to a bamboo farm, students learned about environmental sustainability, biodiversity, and the impact of climate change. Their hands-on work with composting and discussions on ecosystems fostered a deep appreciation for the natural world.

Grade 8 students traveled to Dungun and Pulau Tenggol to dive into the theme of Life Below Water. They snorkeled in coral reefs, studied marine ecosystems, and learned about the threats facing ocean life. These firsthand experiences sparked a passion for marine conservation and highlighted the importance of protecting aquatic environments.

Middle School students got a closer look at species found in the jungle and river during a white water rafting adventure.

High School students ventured across the region, the country, and even internationally to serve and learn. One group traveled to Indonesia for the school’s first international service trip, where they engaged in environmental initiatives and educational outreach at a local school. In Malaysia, students on Tioman Island participated in coral reef regeneration and marine biology workshops.

“EAGLE Week challenged me in ways I hadn’t expected,” said Muhammad Haziq Shamsul Fitri, graduating senior. “I grew by stepping out of my comfort zone to actively engage with conservation work, and the experience sparked a stronger commitment to environmental sustainability in my own life,” explained the senior.

Muhammad Haziq Shamsul Fitri partnered with local conservation groups to protect and restore coral reefs.

Meanwhile, students who remained in Kuala Lumpur partnered with local organizations for projects focused on society, wellbeing, economy, and sustainability. They worked with refugee schools, implemented health initiatives, supported social enterprises, and launched a rooftop garden project on campus—each action driven by a commitment to meaningful change.

Throughout EAGLE Week, students were challenged to think critically, act compassionately, and contribute purposefully. Whether planting seeds for sustainability, building empathy through service, or discovering the beauty and fragility of marine life, every student played a part in shaping a better world.

EAGLE Week was a transformational time of growth and global citizenship. These shared experiences not only strengthened their understanding of global issues but also deepened their commitment to serving the community around them. At OIS, service learning continues to be a cornerstone of character formation, and the school community looks forward to building on this foundation for years to come.

A New Landmark Rises: Citadines Langit Kuching Set to Transform the City Skyline

A collaboration between Hock Seng Lee and The Ascott Limited, Citadines Langit Kuching will blend modern urban living with indigenous-inspired architecture and sustainability features, marking a new chapter in high-rise development for Sarawak’s capital.

In one of the city’s most significant new developments in recent years, Citadines Langit Kuching has officially broken ground. The project, jointly developed by Hock Seng Lee (HSL) and leading international serviced residence operator The Ascott Limited, will bring a new level of integrated urban living to Sarawak’s capital, and is expected to have a gross development value of up to RM200 million.

Langit is at Kuching city centre near the waterfront and shopping malls with great views of the city and the sea.

Located on prime real estate in the Jalan Petanak area, Citadines Langit Kuching is designed as a dual-tower mixed-use development. It will feature 220 units of fully serviced apartments under the globally recognised Citadines brand, alongside 64 private luxury condominiums. The towers will soar 28 storeys above a three-level retail podium – a public plaza conceived to offer dining, shopping, and communal spaces in a lush, landscaped setting inspired by Borneo’s rainforest aesthetic.

“Langit,” meaning “sky” in Malay, is fittingly aspirational. As HSL Managing Director Dato’ Paul Yu explained during the groundbreaking ceremony, “This is a project with heart and purpose. It will change the skyline of Kuching and raise the bar for sustainable, high-quality urban developments in the city.”

ELEVATED LIVING, INSPIRED BY NATURE

A standout architectural feature of Citadines Langit Kuching is its homage to Sarawak’s rich indigenous heritage. The building’s façade and interiors will be thoughtfully infused with Dayak-inspired motifs and elements, aiming to celebrate and reflect the local culture while offering world-class standards in hospitality and residential design.

Singapore firm Salad Dressing is designing all the green areas in Langit, including the clubhouse floors and grand staircase.

Adding further distinction are two elevated “floating” clubhouses – one on Level 4 and another on Level 15 – that will serve as recreational and social hubs. These spaces will be accessible to both residents and serviced apartment guests and will include amenities such as swimming pools, fitness areas, co-working lounges, and green terraces.

The development team has placed a strong emphasis on sustainability, with an aim to achieve certification under Malaysia’s Green Building Index (GBI). Landscaped terraces, energy-efficient systems, and the integration of public green spaces into the overall design reflect the broader push towards environmentally responsible construction.

Ascott will incorporate Kuching and Sarawak into their designs. These early drafts show Dayak motifs and Kuching’s map.

A STRATEGIC ALLIANCE

This project marks Ascott’s second foray into Sarawak and reinforces the company’s confidence in the state’s growing tourism and business potential. The Citadines brand is well-established across Asia for offering flexible, well-appointed serviced apartments that appeal to business travellers, digital nomads, and long-stay guests.

The development also underscores HSL’s ongoing diversification into high-end property and infrastructure projects. “Citadines Langit Kuching will be a place for locals and visitors alike,” noted Yu. “We want this to be a vibrant, open space that contributes to the city’s growth and liveability.”

A FIVE-YEAR TIMELINE, WITH CONDOS LAUNCHING IN 2026

Construction is expected to take approximately five years, with completion targeted for 2029. While the serviced residences will be managed and operated by Ascott upon completion, the 64 luxury condominiums are expected to be offered for sale beginning in late 2026. Positioned as premium urban homes, these condos will likely appeal to professionals, young families, and international buyers seeking a foothold in Sarawak’s most liveable city.

This latest announcement comes as Kuching continues to evolve from a laid-back provincial capital into a more dynamic urban centre. With the government investing heavily in public transport, digital infrastructure, and eco-tourism, the timing of Citadines Langit Kuching could not be more apt.

As the towers begin to rise above the city’s traditional shophouses and riverside landmarks, they will also stand as a symbol of Kuching’s aspirations – a city firmly rooted in its heritage, yet confidently reaching for the sky.

Construction has officially begun on the 28-level, twin towers of Citadines Langit Kuching.
