About 2 weeks after the first announcement, LG has finally revealed that it will launch the curved OLED TV this year. The pre-orders are now open in South Korea though Malaysians will still have to wait a while. The 55EA9800, as LG calls it, will bring IMAX-like viewing experience home.

The TV is just 4.3-mm or 0.17-inch thick and weighs about 17 kilograms. LG claims that the WRGB and Color Refiner technologies that it has used would result in rich colors and most natural images. These 55-inch marvels are priced at approximately 13,500 USD (RM 42,000).

According to LG, the curved display, which is possible through the flexible OLED display panel, would allow the whole surface of the screen to be equidistant from the eyes eliminating the screen-edge visual distortion problem. The new TV is an improvement over its equally big but two-dimensional OLED TV it had released earlier.

The date to receive the preorders in South Korea was set for April 29th and the company will start rolling these out to customers from June. When the TV is released in Malaysia, the users here too would be able to experience cinema like pictures right at their living rooms. For now, we in Malaysia can sit back and watch how successful the TV proves in South Korea.
