Kuala Lumpur City Hall, aka DBKL (Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur) is planning to set up a Food Truck Alley, the first of its kind in the city.

New Straits Times reports that the Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor indicated that the Food Truck Alley will be based near Jalan Sultan Ismail by the Klang River as a complement to the River of Life rejuvenation project, once it is completed.

The alley will be equipped with a water, electricity and waste disposal systems for operators. The concept of a food truck alley or street is apparently quite common overseas, according to Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan.

The River of Life Project is an effort by the government to clean up, beautify, and develop a 10.7km stretch of Klang River that runs through the city and turn it into a waterfront area for leisure and business. The on-going project is expected to be completed by the end of 2016 but the National Transformation Report states that progress has been slower than expected.

Hopefully it’s not too slow though, because the idea of having a bunch of food trucks in one area definitely appeals to the foodie in me. If done properly, this Food Truck Alley can be a fun addition to the bustling food haven that is KL.

For now, we’ll enjoy the KL Food Truck Feast that happens on the first and third of every month at Merdeka Square (Dataran Merdeka) – Saturday, 9pm – 1am; Sunday, 6.30am – 9.30am.
