This post is brought to you in part by Grab.
Grab has come up with some really creative and memorable promotions for their users this year. From free durian deliveries to a virtual reality zombie experience, to an exclusive ride in the iconic Tesla Model S, the ride-sharing company does not disappoint with their branding campaign ideas.
They’ve done it again with their new promotion, which aims to help Christmas shoppers save money on fuel and time on parking, the RM6 discount is valid for those travelling to various malls in KL, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu and Malacca. Click here to jump to the new promotion, or let’s go on a journey through some of our favourite campaigns from 2016:
1. Urban Decay Makeover
Some passengers were treated to a quick makeover by an Urban Decay (UD) makeup artist, and some lucky passengers even received style tips from celebrities in Grab’s special UD-styled Toyota Alphard. Passengers could also use their booking receipt at UD stores to claim UD freebies.
2. The Riding Dead
Together with Fox Channel Asia, Grab offered a cool virtual reality experience where passengers were transported into The Walking Dead universe right in the middle of a zombie outbreak – while trapped in a traffic jam.
For Thanksgiving 2016, Grab and the BIG Group offered roasted turkey stuffed with cranberries, sausages and chestnuts for pre-order. The turkeys, each weighing 4-5kg, were delivered to Grab users who pre-ordered it using the app.
In partnership with GreenTech Malaysia, Grab offered its users the first taste of riding in a Tesla Model S 85, the iconic electric car from Elon Musk’s company Tesla that’s still unavailable for public purchase in Malaysia.
For one day only in July, Grab offered to deliver durians to stinky fruit enthusiasts for only RM10 per fruit. Fruits on offer were the ever popular Musang King, D24, D100 and more.
At the height of the Pokemon Go hype, Grab offered RM5 off rides to ‘trainers’ getting to and from PokeAreas, hotspots for Pokemon hunting. As an added plus, the trainers were ferried around in Grab’s PokeMobile.
For Chinese New Year, Grab teamed up with Ippudo to deliver Yee Sang to Grab users for less than RM10. Some users were greeted by Grab’s God of Prosperity who brought them oranges and ang pau packets.
8. Proud to be Malaysian
For Malaysia’s National Day, the company held a ‘Proud to be Malaysian’ campaign, with a special offer to pay for a ride with a song in the specially-branded “Saya Anak Malaysia” cars. Grab cleverly interpreted the 5 and the 9 from Malaysia’s 59 years of independence to offer RM5 off 9 GrabCar rides with the code MEDEKA59.
9. 100% unexpected, 100% delightful
To showcase their 100% guarantee that riders in Bangsar, Mid Valley, KL Sentral, Mont Kiara, Sri Hartamas, Publika, Bandar Utama, TTDI, or Damansara Uptown will get a driver, one lucky Malaysian received a free ride in a Lamborghini! Here’s the video:
10. Grab Shopping
Grab’s latest promotion is here to help you get your festive shopping done before the big day without having to worry about parking and traffic. They’ve even come up with this fun poem about Christmas shopping that I’m sure we can all relate to:
Tis the season to be thinking
Of presents for loved ones and all
Tis the season to be shopping
And plan your journey to the mall.
Sure, shopping for presents is thrilling
And the decor, simply breathtaking
But the traffic and the parking
Now that’s, a different thing!
