Print Friendly, PDF & Email

In an outpouring of sympathy and to show support, hundreds of Malaysians packed into the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on 7 August to welcome back Datuk Lee Chong Wei, two time Olympic silver medallist, and new national hero. Some came waving the national flag, while others came with posters bearing the words, “LCW-National Hero,” and other inspirational messages.

The professional badminton player played a tough game on Sunday (5 August) in the badminton finals against China’s Lin Dan, and lost in the third set with the scores reading 21-19.

Ranked as World No.2 in Badminton, a visibly crushed Chong Wei apologised to his countrymen on twitter (“I’m sorry I could not get gold”), which triggered an outpouring of messages on Twitter and Facebook, consoling the player and congratulating him for his Silver medal.
