Penang Plans to Increase Parking Charges

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) is proposing to increase parking charges in the inner city. This is to ward off vehicles occupying the roadside lots overnight.

According to the New Straits Times, traffic flow in the Komtar area is increasingly slow as cars often slow down to look for parking. This has also created unnecessary bottleneck jams.

The article states that the actions of those who opt to park their cars there the whole day have deprived others the parking opportunity. Raising the charges might help to curb this problem.

The revised parking fee proposal will be submitted soon for deliberations.
