Time is among the top broadband service providers in Malaysia today. If you are considering a Time broadband connection for your home, below are six important points to help you decide.

1. Does Time broadband cover your area?

There is no point to research Time’s broadband services unless it actually covers the area that you need broadband access. To check whether Time covers your area, visit this page of the Time website. If Time doesn’t cover your area, then consider other broadband services.

2. How much data do you want to download and upload each month?

Some broadband packages limit how much you can download and upload each month. These are known as quotasFiber broadband services aren’t usually very strict about this; however, wireless broadband services typically enforce their quotas.  Typically, once you pass the monthly limit (i.e. quota), your broadband speed will slow down dramatically.

Fortunately, Time broadband packages provide capacity for a lot of internet usage (e.g. downloading and uploading).

Time categorizes their consumers broadband plans into the following groups:

  • Time Fiber Unlimited Home Broadband: For this group of broadband plans, Time does not limit your data usuage. There is no quota, which is very cool. You can read more on this page of Time’s website.
  • Time Fiber 100 Mbps Home Broadband: This is Time’s fastest broadband package for Malaysian consumers but it has a download/upload quota of 100GB. You can read more on this page of Time’s website.
  • Time Broadband (ADSL): We were unable to confirm whether there is an exact quota for Time’s ADSL plans. However, you can read more on this page of Time’s website.

3. What type of broadband technology do you want?

The three main types of broadband services in Malaysia for consumers are: Fiber, Wireless, and ADSL.  Fiber is typically your best choice for speed, wireless is typically your best choice for mobility, and ADSL is typically your best choice for a low-cost fixed line service (particularly useful if the other services don’t cover your area).

Time offers fiber and ADSL broadband connections. Time does not offer wireless broadband packages.  So, if you want a wireless broadband service, you should consider other broadband services.

If you’re priority is to experience fast internet speeds, then you should choose a fiber connection. The fiber broadband packages range from 8 Mbps to 100 Mbps. You can read about Time’s fiber broadband packages on this page of Time’s website.

While ADSL is a relatively older technology that does not offer speeds as fast fiber connections, ADSL is more affordable. There are plans with speeds ranging from 2 Mbps to 12 Mbps. You can read about Time’s ADSL plans on this page of Time’s website.

The contractual period for ADSL and fiber connections range from 12 to 24 months depending on the plan.

6. How good is Time’s customer service?

Customer service is an important factor for finding the best broadband service; however, this can also be one of the most difficult factors for us to evaluate, and it can be quite subjective.

Thus, we strongly encourage you to ask around and get people’s feedback. Customer service can be incredibly important if you start encountering problems with your internet connection.

Here are two ways to investigate Time’s customer services:

  • LowYat Forum: LowYat is active forum in Malaysia and can be a great place to find existing threads about Time to see what people have been saying. Alternatively, you can start your own discussion by creating your own thread. .
  • Ask Around: One great way to get information is to ask people in your network.  Ask your colleagues, friends, or family in Malaysia.  This simple exercise can sometimes offer very insightful information.
