The fun awakens: where to buy a Sphero BB-8 Droid in Malaysia

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

If you’ve watched the latest Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, you will no doubt be familiar with BB-8, the spherical droid that has won the hearts of many with its whirring and beeping. Robotics company, Sphero, has teamed up with Disney and Lucasfilms to bring us a BB-8 toy that is sure to delight both children and adults.

What is Sphero?

Sphero started off in 2010, when creators Adam and Ian began working on an app-enabled robotic ball. In 2011, their first robotic ball was released to the world, and the company has not stopped since, as they have continued to develop the technology of app-enabled robotics. Naturally, the unique features of Sphero’s creations fit perfectly with the latest adorable little droid on TV.

The BB-8 toy can be controlled via an an app on your smart device, either Android or iOS, and it also responds to voice commands. The toys is advertised as having an adaptive personality, meaning that its ‘attitudes and actions’ will evolve as you interact with it. In fact, a Star Wars Force Band is also in the works by Sphero, which will bring a whole new spin to the way users can interact with their own BB-8.

Where can you get your own BB-8 Droid?

There only two places that are selling the BB-8 Droid in Malaysia at the moment, the toy store Toys”R”Us and the local Apple reseller store Machines. Both are retailing it for RM849:
