What do you do on the weekends, or during your free time? Well, the creative bug in us has been sniffing out the scene for arts and crafts workshops as creative outlets, and we’re sharing it with you! (Also because we’re always looking for new skills and hobbies to learn and pick up.) Whether you’re partial to crochet, or interested in making your own jewellery, check out this list of arts and crafts workshops in KL that are happening soon.

Drawstring Crochet Bag Workshop

What’s better than buying yourself a neat new bag? Well, making it yourself would be pretty satisfying, we imagine. If you’re partial to crochet, check out this Drawstring crochet bag workshop by Izipizi Crafts. The fees include all materials you’ll be using, and each student will bring home their very own handmade drawstring crochet bag, of course. The class is available for those above 16 years of age. Modern Calligraphy Workshop

Calling all future modern calligraphers! Owl and Quill Calligraphy is hosting a Modern calligraphy workshop that’s suitable for absolute beginners, including children above 10 years. The fees include a carefully curated modern calligraphy kit, guidance, and lunch (even a soft-serve ice cream for dessert!). The calligraphy kit comprises a straight holder, a wooden oblique holder with a metal flange, and two nibs.

Introduction to Forged Earrings Workshop

Ever wanted to make your own jewellery? Then maybe you’d like to consider this Introductory workshop hosted by Lucy Walker Jewellery. Participants will learn to forge and form metal by using various hammers. You will create and bring home your very own pair of bronze and sterling silver earrings, besides the vital skills to create more complex pieces in the future. This is an introductory class aimed at beginner to intermediate level jewellers.

Mini Leather Bag Workshop

If crochet’s not really your thing, check out this leathercraft option instead and make your own crossbody mini bag. The fee covers all materials and tools you’d need, but excludes lunch – there will be yummy food available for purchase at the venue. Please note that cow leather will be used. Participants will learn things like how to use a pricking iron, saddle-stitch the leather, and burnish the edges. There’s also the option to have your name or initials embossed onto your finished crossbody bag.

Sekka Shibori Workshop

Sekka Shibori is one method of the Japanese art of tie-dying fabric. ‘Sekka’ means snowflake in Japanese, and ‘shibori’ is a tie-dye technique. The material is folded into a snowflake pattern, then coloured with indigo dye, typically. Shekka Shibori is commonly used in making kimonos, and participants of this workshop might even learn some ways on sewing kimono jackets. This workshop is suitable for teenagers and adults.

Soap Making Workshop

Go green and make your own healthy soap bars. The Weekend Workshop will show participants how to make your very own cold-processed soap. All materials and tools will be provided, and each student will be able to bring home a 600g (approximate) soap bar. Light refreshments will be provided.

Polymer Workshop: Char Kuey Teow Edition

How cute (and mouthwatering) does this polymer char kuey teow look? Believe it or not, each piece is made of polymer clay, then painted to imitate the real life version. Participants will learn how to make all the yummy details, and the basic techniques of clay handling and texturing, among other things.
