Penang School to Represent Malaysia in Dubai

Students from Sekolah Menengah Penang Free School will be representing Malaysia at the 2012 F1 in Schools Technology Challenge world finals, in Abu Dhabi on 29 October.

The team, Panthera F1, consists of team leader Afmah Shahir Shahruddin, 17, Muhamad Armen Sidqi Mohd Nasarudin, 17, Nurrahman Johari, 17, and Ahmad Shahrazeen Shahruddin, 13.

For the finals, the group of students are required to design a F1 car using balsa wood.

Team Panthera F1 won the national rounds with their miniature F1 model car, “Huawra”, using the rapid prototyping technology, and was assisted by a lecturer from the Centre for Engineering at University Sains Malaysia.

According to Bernama.com, a total of 40 countries, including Australia, Singapore, Canada, England, South Korea, South Africa, New Zealand, Germany, Norway and Scotland, will compete at the world finals.

F1 in Schools, the Formula One Technology Challenge, is an engineering and design action-learning project for students, carried out in high schools around the world.

With more than 20 countries participating from Europe, North and South America, Africa, the Middle East and Australasia, the international competition has very local and practical implications for all students involved.

Each year, student teams progress through a series of regional, state and national finals, with the best teams from each country competing for the F1 in Schools World Champions title.
