Special Task Force to Handle Tourist Guide Issues

The Ministry has set up a special task force to handle issues faced by over 10,000 tourist guides in Malaysia.

According to Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, the special task force is aimed to provide a platform for tourist guides to raise their issues directly to the ministry, which in turn will allow the ministry to synchronize with relevant agencies to address the issues.

Ng Yen Yen also told The Star the task force (which is headed by the ministry’s secretary general and comprises of representatives from tourist associations and relevant government agencies) will hold its first meeting next week.

According to The Star, around 11.6 million tourists visited Malaysia for the first six months of 2012, and spent a total of RM26.6 billion.
