The speed limits on all federal and state roads will be reduced by 10km/hr during the Ops Selamat 3 road safety operation in conjunction with Hari Raya. The reduced speed limit is effective from today, and will go on until 18 August 2013.

According to Works Minister Datuk Fadilah Yusof, the speed limit on federal roads will be reduced from 90km/hr to 80km/hr and the speed limit for state roads will be reduced to 70km/hr from 80km/hr.

“This is for the safety of motorists during the festive period and we hope they will observe the changed speed limits during the festive season.”

The ministry has also ordered all road repair works, including the ones on tolled highways, to be stopped during Ops Selamat 3 to ease traffic flow.

The Public Works Department patrol teams will be monitoring roads under its jurisdiction during office hours during Ops Selamat 3. The frequency will increase during rainy weather.
