We recently emailed BMW Malaysia to get a better understanding about when the BMW i3 might arrive in Malaysia. Here is an extract of their email reply:

Redefining urban mobility means thinking far beyond environmentally-conscious and agile driving. The result: with its visionary design, theBMW i3 design defines the automobile of tomorrow. Its innovative BMW eDrive power train was designed in the scope of the BMWEfficientDynamics technology and is not only locally emission-free, but also offers an incomparable and nearly silent driving experience. The intelligent BMW ConnectedDrive Services bring you easily and conveniently to your destination.

BMW Malaysia strives to bring you the new BMW i vehicles as soon as possible, once the local infrastructure is ready for electric cars. Unfortunatly it would not be in the plans for this year.” – Monday, 5 August 2013

As expected, BMW i3 will not arrive in Malaysia this year. Equally important is the company’s note about the local infrastructure. It would be quite disastrous for electric cars to be dying in the KL traffic jams! Having easy access to proper energy sources will be crucial to brining the electric cars to Malaysia.
