By the end of this year, a total of 1,200 CCTVs will be installed all over KL city to monitor the safety of the public.

According to Kuala Lumpur’s mayor, Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib, the state of the art CCTVs would be synchronised and monitored by all police departments in the city and will also be connected to the Integrated Transport Information System (IT IS) in Bukit Jalil.

“The DBKL operations centre in our headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut and Jalan Tun Razak will be connected to this system,’’ he said. “We are also working with companies that have CCTVs in private buildings to be connected to our system for better security surveillance,’’ he added.

According to Ahmad Phesal, in case of massive traffic congestion in KL, the system will also enable traffic wardens and police to immediately get to ground to help ease and divert traffic.

The mayor hopes that this new system will help improve the response time to crime and help with traffic woes as well.

The project, which costs RM200 million, was given to GTC Global Sdn Bhd, who will install, maintain and manage the CCTVs for the next six years.
