Malaysian Wins SriLankan Golf Classic

Malaysia’s Subramaniyam Sashi Kumar walked away a winner at the recent SriLankan Airline’s 14th annual Golf Classic. The tournament was held in Kandy, Sri Lankan, on the stunning 18-hole Victoria Golf and Country Resort in Digana.

About 200 foreign players from 19 countries, including players from Sri Lanka, entered with Malaysia registering the largest contingent for this annual October tournament of Sri Lanka’s national airline. Qin Ami of Pakistan won the Women’s championship. This has been the most diverse participation country-wise the tournament has ever recorded, with golfers from Malaysia, France, the UK, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Australia, the UAE, China, India, Japan, the USA, Oman, Pakistan, Hongkong, Kuwait and Singapore converging on the hill-capital of Sri Lanka.  

For the past 14 years, the SriLankan Golf Classic has attracted hundreds of players particularly from the Asian region. But now, it has a global participation for its reputation for golf plus leisure. Part of the attraction has been the challenging course located amidst beautiful tropical surroundings in the central hills of Sri Lanka. Golf is played between the transcendent Knuckles mountain ranges and the picturesque Victoria Reservoir. Golfers not only get a chance to put their skills to test against an international field of competitors, but also enjoy a memorable vacation.  

The Malaysian contingent had more successes with Lee Kim Leow winning the Gents Division A-)-12 Handicap Nett event and Chaong Pitt Kue becoming the Runner-Up in the Ladies Division B-21-28 Handicap Nett event.

The next SriLankan Golf Classic will also be played on the Victoria Golf and Country Club course in October, 2014.
