The Malaysian Book of Records admitted an entry last week of student from University Sains Malaysia who created a 75 meters by 60 meters wide heart-shaped formation using 4,000 umbrella. The ‘Biggest Heart Formation’ project was a collaboration between almost 200 volunteers from USM and Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) who sponsored the umbrellas.

Umbrellas were the main feature of the project, themed ‘love and affection’, as the act of sharing an umbrella is simple but can have a greater impact on people, said project director Tan Kar Yap to Astro Awani. One of the volunteers, Kho Ying Han, mentioned that strong winds added to the challenge of creating the formation outdoors.

Not to be defeated, however, the volunteers all worked together and came up with a feasible solution – they tied the umbrellas together to stop them flying  away – and went on to clinch a spot in the Malaysian Book of Records. Kho also said that they hoped to spread a message of ‘sharing is caring’ to the larger community.
