A nationwide virtual run and family-friendly carnival come together this April, raising funds and awareness for autism support while celebrating two decades of meaningful work.
Marking its 20th anniversary alongside World Autism Awareness Month, Early Autism Project Malaysia (EAP) is launching Run for Autism 2026, a two-week virtual run culminating in a vibrant charity carnival and fun run on April 18 at Perdana Botanical Gardens, Kuala Lumpur.
The initiative aims to raise funds for The Hope Project, EAP’s non-profit arm, supporting expanded access to autism services nationwide. Among the key beneficiaries is the Autism At Home digital app, designed to equip parents, teachers, and caregivers with practical resources and training, alongside subsidised services and capacity-building programmes for autism centres across Malaysia.
Participants in the virtual run, open to those aged 12 and above, will complete a cumulative 20km at their own pace between April 2 and April 18. Registration, priced at RM80, includes a race kit, T-shirt, and e-certificate. Those seeking a more casual involvement can join the final lap fun run at the carnival for RM50, or simply attend to support the cause.
The April 18 finale promises an inclusive, community-driven atmosphere, with activities ranging from live performances and warm-up sessions to autism-friendly booths, free screenings, and family-oriented развлечments. The event will be flagged off by Datuk Stuart Ramalingam and led by advocates Dr Say Shazril and Dr Azura Abas.
With autism diagnoses in Malaysia rising by over 660% from 2013 to 2023, the need for accessible support has never been greater. Since 2006, EAP has supported more than 1,500 individuals across 40 countries, while The Hope Project has reached over one million people through awareness efforts.
Run for Autism 2026 offers a meaningful way for Malaysians to engage, contribute, and take steps – quite literally – towards a more inclusive society.
