The House of Suntory has officially introduced its award-winning Toki Japanese Whisky to Malaysia, bringing a modern expression of Japanese whisky craftsmanship that blends heritage, balance, and versatility.
Japanese whisky continues to enjoy growing popularity around the world, and Malaysian enthusiasts now have another label to explore with the official local launch of Toki Suntory Whisky, the latest expression from the House of Suntory.
Produced by one of Japan’s most respected whisky makers, Toki represents a contemporary interpretation of the House of Suntory’s long-established blending philosophy. While rooted in tradition, the whisky has been crafted with today’s drinker in mind, offering an approachable yet refined profile suitable for everything from casual social occasions to more considered whisky appreciation.
The name “Toki” translates to “time” in Japanese, reflecting the balance between heritage and innovation that has long defined the House of Suntory. Established in 1923, the company is widely regarded as the birthplace of Japanese whisky and has built its reputation on blending precision with meticulous craftsmanship.

Unlike many traditional blends that place greater emphasis specifically on either the grain or malt whisky components, Toki takes a different approach. Developed under the guidance of fourth-generation Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo, it combines a balanced blend of 50% malt whisky and 50% grain whisky, giving both components equal importance in shaping the final character.
The blend brings together whiskies from Suntory’s three renowned distilleries. Hakushu contributes fresh green apple notes and gentle herbal characteristics, Chita provides smooth vanilla sweetness and structure, while Yamazaki adds richness, depth, and complexity. Together they produce a whisky that is crisp, well-balanced, and notably sippable and approachable.
The resulting flavour profile opens with aromas of green apple, basil, and delicate florals before revealing honeyed sweetness, citrus brightness, and subtle herbal notes on the palate. A clean finish with gentle spice completes the experience.
Although Toki has been available in a number of international markets (and duty-free outlets), its official Malaysian launch marks another milestone for Japanese whisky, which has enjoyed steadily increasing interest among local consumers over the past decade. The expression is fully distilled, matured, and bottled in Japan in accordance with standards established by the Japan Spirits & Liqueurs Makers Association, reinforcing its credentials as an authentic Japanese whisky. Earlier this year, it also received a Gold Medal at the 2026 International Spirits Challenge.

VERSATILITY TAKES CENTRE STAGE
One of Toki’s defining characteristics is its versatility. While the Japanese Highball has become closely associated with Suntory around the world, the brand believes Malaysian consumers are equally likely to enjoy the whisky neat or over ice, allowing its balanced character to shine through.
According to Roger Chen, Marketing Director of Suntory Global Spirits Southeast Asia, Malaysia’s appreciation for premium whisky continues to evolve, with consumers increasingly seeking quality spirits that suit a variety of drinking occasions.
“Malaysia has a strong and growing appreciation for premium spirits, with whisky increasingly enjoyed in social and shared occasions,” he said. “Toki brings a modern expression of Japanese whisky craftsmanship – refined, versatile, and approachable. It carries the heritage of the House of Suntory while inviting a new generation of drinkers in Malaysia to experience Japanese whisky in a more expressive and social way.”

To celebrate the launch, the House of Suntory hosted its first Malaysian consumer event at 黯 An Livehouse KL, reflecting what it describes as “Toki Time” – moments set aside to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy good company over a quality dram.
Local bar professionals attending the launch echoed the whisky’s broad appeal.
“The House of Suntory has long shaped the way many of us think about Japanese whisky craftsmanship and balance,” said Shirmy Chan, Co-Founder and Bar Director of TeRu.Mi. “Toki stands out for its well-balanced profile, bold enough to carry character, yet versatile enough to be enjoyed across different occasions and serves.”
Joel Poon, Co-Founder and Bar Manager of Reka, agreed.
“Toki is easy to enjoy on its own because of its smooth and balanced profile, while still having enough character to work across different drinking occasions, from elevated cocktail experiences to more casual social settings,” he said.
Suntory Brand Ambassador Darwin Ng added that maintaining character across different serves was central to the whisky’s appeal.
“A truly great whisky retains its integrity and character in every serve, regardless of how it is enjoyed,” he said. “Toki is defined by its subtle complexity and balance, with enough depth to be enjoyed neat or on the rocks. Its versatility allows it to adapt across occasions while retaining its identity.”
Toki Suntory Whisky is now available at selected premium bars across Malaysia, including 黯 An Livehouse KL, Pahit, TeRu.Mi, Coley, Reka, Frank’s Bar KL, Dear Hearts, and Chilled Spirits, as well as through leading retailers and online platforms nationwide.
