New-car prices in Malaysia range from around RM22,000 for a basic compact car to several hundred thousand ringgit for premium and high-performance vehicles. The following shows sample prices as of mid 2026 of some common models divided into three broad categories – economy, mid-priced, and premium. Senior working expats with multinationals typically are given high-end premium vehicles, while less senior employees often are allocated lower-priced vehicles. Foreigners employed with local companies often do not receive a car. Research shows that those who retire in Malaysia often favor Japanese models given their lower prices and upkeep as well as their reliability.

The premium market includes established European premium brands plus some Japanese luxury brands as well as increasingly sophisticated Chinese vehicles. A compact Lexus begins at just over RM213,000, while the Mercedes-Benz C-Class starts at approximately RM250,000. The hybrid GWM Tank 300 provides a Chinese alternative at RM259,800.
Most prices are manufacturer-advertised starting prices or on-the-road prices for Peninsular Malaysia without insurance. The final cost may differ according to the variant, colour, accessories, registration location and current promotions.
