There’s now an alternative to a standard airport transfer to KLIA or KLIA2. A new Malaysia-based app, launched this month and called Airport2U, offers flat-rate trips to the airport starting from RM18 per person.

The reason behind the low fare is that the app works on a ride-sharing concept tailored for budget and individual travellers. Once you book a taxi, you won’t be the only person using it. One taxi can ferry up to 3 people per journey, so the fare is split between the three passengers. However, if you prefer a taxi to yourself, you can book a non-sharing taxi on the Airport2U website and your fare will be charged according to the meter.

The trips have to be booked at least seven days in advance and riders can choose from a list of pick up points around the Klang Valley, mostly malls. Based on the app, a trip from Mont Kiara will cost RM39.90 which is the highest rate – same as trips from Ampang, Keramat, and Kepong – while a trip from The Pulze, Cyberjaya will cost a mere RM18.

Compared to the standard available airport transfers like KLIA Ekspress and or even using a regular taxi, Airport2U’s rates are significantly cheaper.

The app uses MPV taxis, so comfort won’t be an issue, and all taxis registered with the app are documented and registered with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) with proper insurance. One glaring issue is that riders can only use the app one way – there’s no option on the app for booking a taxi to get back from the airport to a drop off point.
