Royal Salute unveils its latest Lunar New Year Special Edition, pairing the house’s iconic 21 Year Old Signature Blend with striking collectible packaging created to welcome the Year of the Horse.
Royal Salute has announced the release of its 21 Year Old Lunar New Year Special Edition, a limited-edition gift pack created to mark the arrival of the Year of the Horse. Known for its focus on exceptionally aged Scotch whisky, the brand continues its long-standing Lunar New Year tradition with a release that blends ceremonial storytelling, visual artistry, and a whisky that has remained unchanged for seven decades.
The 2026 edition carries the theme “Ignite the New Year” and features artwork by award-winning British illustrator Emily Carter. Recognised for her detailed, nature-led illustrations and artisanal approach, Carter’s design brings together symbols traditionally associated with prosperity and renewal. The packaging features peonies, lanterns, butterflies, fireworks, and cranes, all arranged to suggest motion, celebration, and optimism for the year ahead. These elements are interwoven with regal references, including lions and the Tower of London, reflecting Royal Salute’s British heritage and its roots in ceremonial occasions.
Royal Salute’s origins date back to 1953, when the whisky was first created to commemorate the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. That sense of occasion remains central to the brand’s identity, and the Lunar New Year Special Edition continues this legacy as part of a collectible annual series sought after by enthusiasts and gift buyers alike.
At the heart of the presentation is Royal Salute’s 21 Year Old Signature Blend. First crafted 70 years ago, the blend draws on a selection of carefully matured Scotch whiskies and has remained consistent in character since its inception. The whisky offers notes of ripe fruit alongside gentle spice, leading to a rich, rounded, and notably smooth finish. It is presented in the brand’s signature ruby-red ceramic flagon, a design inspired by the gemstones set into the Imperial State Crown.
Commenting on the release, Royal Salute Master Blender Sandy Hyslop noted that Lunar New Year represents renewal, tradition, and shared celebration. He added that the collaboration with Emily Carter captures the spirit of the season while remaining true to Royal Salute’s role as a whisky created for meaningful occasions and shared moments.
