Would Google Build a Wireless Broadband Network in Malaysia?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The WSJ recently published that Google is planning to build wireless networks in Africa as well as South-East Asia. The idea seems simple: to guide people towards Google services by giving them internet connectivity.  Google has not yet confirmed whether it intends to build networks in Malaysia. It is believed that Google is already in talks with some African countries to fund and build cellular networks with the aid of wireless spectrum that is reserved exclusively for television broadcasting.

Google’s plan to grow the internet user population is an interesting strategy.  If Google successfully connects new markets to the internet, it could support many of the company’s other products, such as Google Search, Android devices, YouTube, and much more. This could also be one of the reasons why the company Google is building Fiber broadband services in the United States, which can provide very high-speed internet access – up to ten times faster than Malaysia’s fastest broadband service! (Google Fiber offers up to 1,000 Mbps and Malaysia’s Time offers up to 100 Mbps).

It is no secret that Google has been planning an entry into the cellular service market and countries that do not have world-class internet connectivity seem like a good move for the company.  But Malaysia does have a range of internet services that continue to expand.  So, we’ll just have to wait and see if the tech giant Google decides to take a step into Malaysia’s broadband market.  What do you think? i really really wanted this to happen… but i knew this will never happen as the government will get the benefits from the commission so little… and will make others internet provider bankrupt…

It’s more of a competition thing. The better one gets to stay. All I can say is that if TM or any other similar companies still continue to suck, then Google fiber is the way to go. It’s a better choice for the people and everyone in general. So TM and the other companies can GTFO if they don’t step up the game.

I think Google will definitely enter Malaysia in the near future. The Government won’t stop this as you can see they are corrupted and they don’t care that much for local brands as long as they get more money… and there will also be other benefits like more jobs, wicked fast internet etc.

Corrupted ministry gov of Malaysia will not allow this happen, unless it will give them benefits to.

Once Google entered Malaysia broadband market, TM, TIME and other crony companies will die. Malaysia government would not want that to happen.

Yeh, I’m guessing there would be some serious regulatory hurdles that would prevent Google fiber from entering the Malaysian market.
