Nest Thermostat

Google just paid a staggering US$ 3.2 billion (~RM11.2 billion) to acquire a company called Nest.  So, what is Nest? Well, it’s basically a company dedicated to improving household products through better design, functionality, and internet connectivity. The company’s two main products currently are the Nest Thermostat and Nest Protect. This is another step for Google to expand its business into physical products, rather than just digital products.

Nest Thermostat

The Nest Thermostat is an internet connected thermostat.  With this device you can control the room temperature using your mobile device or computer. It also can compare the weather with your household temperature, learn your temperature preferences, save energy by adjusting the temperature when you’re not home, and more. Watch the short video below about the Nest Thermostat.

Nest Protect (Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector)

The Nest Protect is an internet connected smoke and carbon monoxide detector with some neat features. This device can detect smoke, carbon monoxide, heat, light, and motion. The device can speak to you when it initially detects the said activity. If you accidentally set-off the alarm, you can prevent the alarm from activating by motioning your hand gesture across the device. You can also monitor the device through your mobile device or computer, such as reading the battery status. Watch the video below to learn more about Nest Protect.

Yeh, that is cool. It’s interesting to see how the smartphone is becoming more and more our remote control for so many things in life, TVs, locks, sound systems, etc
